Media Release – The CFMEU’s migration agent understanding is wrong

The Migration Institute of Australia (MIA) strongly disagrees with the assertion made today by the CFMEU that one of the problems of Australia’s temporary work visa programmes was the lack of controls over migration agents, says MIA National President Angela Chan FMIA.

The CFMEU’s comments come in response to today’s Senate decision to establish an inquiry into Australia’s temporary work visa programmes.

Ms Chan said that all immigration advice professionals who operate in Australia are regulated by the Office of Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA). All Registered Migration Agents must apply for registration each year, and must abide by a Code of Conduct and complete continuing professional development courses each year.
